About Join In Local
Feeling connected to other people is one of the most important things for our mental wellbeing. But it can be hard to know what's on nearby, and harder still to take the first step.
Join In Local is a not-for-profit site, developed by mental health professionals and researchers in motivation science to make that easier. It's designed especially for older adults and people living with physical or mental health conditions, though anyone is welcome to use it. It brings together local activities in one place, suggests something to try based on what you enjoy, and helps you plan when you'll go. Small, concrete steps like these make it more likely you'll go along.
It's free and you don't need to sign up. Use it on your own, or with someone supporting you, such as a family member, carer, GP or social prescribing link worker.
Join In Local is not a health service and can't give medical advice.
Would you like help from a person?
Camden's free Care Navigation and Social Prescribing Service can talk things through and help you find activities and support. Freephone 0800 193 6067 or email communitylinks@vac.org.uk. See Voluntary Action Camden or Age UK Camden.
If you're struggling, speak to your GP, or call Samaritans free on 116 123, any time.
How this works
- Listings are updated every night from local groups checked by our team, exercise sessions published as open data (OpenActive), community organisations from Voluntary Action Camden's One Camden Directory, and places from OpenStreetMap, a free map made by volunteers. Your postcode is looked up with postcodes.io.
- Each group shows where its details came from and when they were last checked. For places, costs and "who can go" are what's typical for that kind of place. Always phone or check the website before going.
- Something missing, closed or wrong? Use "Report a change" on any listing, or "Suggest it for everyone" under "Know a local group that isn't listed?".
Contact us
Questions, ideas or feedback about the site? Email hello@joininlocal.co.uk. To correct a listing, the quickest way is "Report a change" on that listing.
We can't give advice about health or care by email. For help finding support, call the Care Navigation and Social Prescribing Service on 0800 193 6067.
Your privacy
- You don't need an account, and we don't use cookies.
- Your list stays in your browser tab, and groups you add yourself stay on your device.
- To improve the site we count how it's used, anonymously: for example searches by area (like "NW5", never your full postcode), which filters are used and which activities are added to lists. Nothing identifies you.
- If you report a change or suggest a group, we keep only what you type so we can check it. We don't ask for your name or contact details, and we delete it after a year.
